And the award for Best Unironic Sonnet Title…

June 23, 2011

…goes to Charlotte Smith, for her sonnet “On Being Cautioned Against Walking on an Headland Overlooking the Sea, Because It Was Frequented by a Lunatic.”

Which is, admittedly, not one of her best, but which gets claps anyway for what it does to whatever within me is responsible for elaborate internal visualisations of cliff-top derangement (I’m thinking flailing and a spotted bindle).
